I finally managed to track down the issues which are the sources of the problem.

At first, I followed this link:

That technote quickly fixed these errors:
[3A1C:0012-269C] HTTP JVM: FATAL ERROR: 'java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Array index out of range: 0'
[3A1C:0012-269C] HTTP JVM: :Array index out of range: 0

But, I was still getting the rest of the errors which, in my view, was preventing a proper sametime server start. This, in turn, was leading to the sametime server not listening on ports 1516 and 1533.

I decided to stop the LDAP server from starting in both the Administration Domino Server and the Sametime Server. The ports immediately sprang to life at the next start.

To stop the LDAP server from starting, I followed this link:

Environment used:
#1:
Hardware: Oracle VirtualBox
DWA / Domino Administration Server
OS: RHEL 5.4
Domino version: 8.5.3FP2

#2:
Hardware: Oracle VirtualBox
Sametime Server
OS: RHEL 5.4
Sametime Server 8.5.3 over Domino version: 8.5.3FP2

I have not come around to testing the Sametime awareness on iNotes as yet. But going by the successful telnet results on both ports 1516 and 1533, it should not be an issue any more. I shall be posting the results soon.
